January 14-17, 2010 – United States Leadership Academy in Tulsa, Ok Visit the United States Junior Chamber web page for more information. www.usjaycees.org February 23, 2010 - Distinguished Service Awards (DSA Banquet) Each year awards are given for “Young Firefighter of the Year”, “Young Police Officer of the Year”, “Young Teacher of the Year”, “Boss of the Year”, and “Volunteer of the Year”. This has become a tradition for the firefighters, police officers and teachers in our area. They hold it as a most honorable award. Money is raised in various events throughout the year to hold this banquet at the Fianna Hills Country Club and dinner is served free to all guests and Jaycee members. July 16-18, 2010 – State Float Trip 2010 Spring River This is our annual event where the Jaycees Chapters across Arkansas, come to build leadership skills and teamwork skills together. July 31, 2010 – The 1st Annual Rivertown Raft Race This is a non-profit Fort Smith Jaycees event. It is a homemade human powered raft race on the Arkansas River. There are prizes for up to three places and unique awards also. The entry fee is $50 per boat with a crew of at least 2 or more. The course is about 3 miles long with a festival at the finish line. Proceeds will benefit a designated charity. October 14-16, 21-23, 28-30, 2010 - Haunted Trail Ride The last few weeks of October approximately 10 evenings, a haunted trail ride is put on by the Jaycees. Tickets are $5 and patrons ride in trailers pulled by a tractor through a haunted forest of ghosts and goblins. This event is used to support the Jaycees non-funded events such as the DSA Banquet in February, the membership pool party in July and the Mayor’s Christmas Parade in December. November-December - Festival of Trees (Central Mall) Companies are asked to sponsor a Christmas tree for a $200 fee. The Jaycees provide the Christmas tree with lights as well as a display sign for the sponsor. Central Mall provides the electricity. Sponsors decorate the trees in their choice of decorations to be displayed for approximately 45 days in specified areas of the Central Mall. Shoppers may participate in a contest for “Best Decorated Tree”. The winner receives a trophy and a $200 Central Mall Gift Card. Proceeds benefited the Fort Smith Boys Shelter last year. The Jaycee members vote for a new charity annually. December 4, 2010 - Mayor’s Christmas Parade This is a non-profit event for the Jaycees. The Jaycees are responsible for taking float applicant information and organizing the entire event including line up prior to the parade. The Jaycees are also responsible for booking Master of Ceremonies, as well as judges. Multiple awards are given to participants in several categories, such as Best Overall Float, Best Marching Band, Best Original Float, etc. December 18, 2010 - Creekmore Holiday Express The Jaycees are responsible for providing hot chocolate and candy for Creekmore Park. Donations to the Fort Smith Jaycees are appreciated.
